Wisconsin Hospital Association Awards

2002 Award Winners

Distinguished Service Award

WHA proudly presents its 2002 Distinguished Service Award to Dan Hymans, chief executive officer of Ashlands Memorial Medical Center. Daniel has served MMC since 1992 and has been an active member of WHA, serving on the board of directors in the 1990s, and as its chair in 1996.

In nominating Dan for this award, members of the Vikingland Region of WHA talked about his years of service to WHA, while CEO at Riverview Hospital Association in Wisconsin Rapids and again as CEO of Ashlands MMC. They said, He not only served in those positions, but consistently demonstrated strong leadership abilities. He is not a person to dominate a conversation, but when he speaks he has something of importance to contribute. He is not afraid to take a stand, but tries to do so in a diplomatic and respectful manner.

As a member of our region, he shares information, raises important issues and has insights that are helpful. He also enjoys the comradery and adds freely to the good humor and kidding that we enjoy in Vikingland. We all feel we can count on him as a fellow CEO, a knowledgeable resource regarding WHA, and as a friend.
