Preventing Clinical Denials: A Comprehensive Revenue Management Approach

Program Description
It is estimated that most organizations can recoup 3 to 5 percent of annual revenues through effective denial management. This webinar explains the importance of a "Physician Advisor" within a health care organization, especially as it relates to reducing length of stay, managing resource utilization, and overturning denials through concurrent appeals. The presenters will share best practice strategies for denial prevention, including recommended case management processes, utilization of workflow technology plus related managed care contracting tips.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
- Review the benefits of applying technology to the concurrent review process and how to establish accountability for increased morale.
- Learn how to use business intelligence analytics to spot and cure root causes of denials.
- Explore how to expand the traditional role of the physician advisor into an expanded leadership position.
- Discuss methods for establishing communication between case management/UR, physician advisors and payer.
- Learn how to prevent denials through a revenue cycle approach – involving patient access, documentation, case management, and patient financial services.

Jeff Noonan, Director Professional Services, MD-X Solutions, a MedAssets Company. Noonan leads the direction and development of MedAssets’ consulting and professional services division. He has significant experience in leading large scale initiatives and has extensive experience in re-engineering various departments throughout the revenue cycle. Prior to joining MedAssets, Noonan worked with IBM consulting to prepare UBS PaineWebber for Y2K. Jeff graduated from the University of Virginia with a BS in Systems Engineering.
Caitlin Zulla, CHFP, Director, Implementation, MedAssets Revenue Solutions. Zulla leads implementation activities focusing on coordination, communication and documentation for a Comprehensive Revenue Cycle transformation, including patient access and business office re-engineering, and the A/R outsourcing. Prior to joining MedAssets, Zulla performed reimbursement and profitability analyses for a national consulting firm, and worked in the finance office of a large hospital system. Zulla has a BA from Princeton University and a Masters in Public Health from Columbia University.

Cancellations received in writing up to five business days prior to an event will be given a full refund less a $50 processing fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations received less than five business days prior and day-of-program no-shows. Substitutions are accepted.
