Room Pressurization

Program Description
How does room pressurization aid infection control? What constitutes good engineering design practice for protective environment? What are the Joint Commission elements of performance for ventilation systems that serve areas specially designed to control airborne contaminants? This webinar will discuss the elements of room pressurization within a health care environment.

Program Topics
  • Identify the room design criteria used to create a protective environment for patient and health care worker
  • Review current industry guidelines for protective environments such as: Airborne Infectious Isolation (AII), Protective Environment (PE), Laboratory and Operation Rooms.
  • Review room pressurization from the 'Environment of Care' perspective.

Learning Objectives
    At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
  1. Understand basic concepts of room pressurization.
  2. Understand positive and negative room pressurization; and room pressurization applications in a health care environment.
  3. Understand room pressurization from the 'Environment of Care' perspective.

Principal Engineer, Siemens Building Technologies, Inc., Buffalo Grove, IL

Kimberly Barker is a principal engineer at Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. She has been active in the building controls industry for the last 25 years. Her experience with building controls spans from room controllers, application-specific controllers, third-party integration, and central workstation application to infromatino management. Her current focus is on providing comprehensive customers solutios for health care facilities. She is a graduate of Valparasio University with a BSME. She is a member of ASHRAE, ASHE, ASHP, AEE, NFPA and USGBC. She is active on the following technical committees: ASHRAE for Healthcare Facilities; and NFPA Health Care Facilities: Mechanical Systems.

How the Webinar Will Work
Dial-in instructions and any other reference materials will be emailed to each registrant approximately three days prior to the conference. If you do not receive them by this date, please email Lisa Geishirt at lgeishirt@wha.org.

It is the responsibility of the registrant to access presentation materials prior to the day of the event. If your e-mail address changes, you do not receive an e-mail with instructions from WHA, or if you are unable to open presentation materials, please contact Lisa Geishirt at WHA two days prior to the event to allow time to address the issue.

Substitution, Transfer and Cancellation Policy
Cancellations received in writing up to five business days prior to an event will be given a full refund less a $50 processing fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations received less than five business days prior and day-of-program no-shows. Substitutions are accepted.
