Sorry Works! The Effects of Disclosure, Apology and Relationship
Webinar
May 22, 2008 Time: 11 am - 12 pm CENTRAL TIME
Register for this event online: May 22, 2008 ($295 per line)
Program Description
The seed of a professional liability claim is often planted within the first 24 hours following an adverse event. What is communicated to the patient or family within those first critical hours is never forgotten. Often the cause of both frequency and severity of claims lies in inadequate event management, service lapses and communication failures among healthcare providers and staff and their patients. There is no doubt that proper disclosure and good communication directly influence whether patients or their families seek a plaintiff's attorney.
This webinar will explain how organizations can develop a disclosure and apology program for adverse medical events. It will include an overview of the disclosure movement, including success stories, the elements of a successful disclosure program, and how to apologize to patients and families after adverse medical events. The webinar will also provide a detailed discussion of how disclosure done correctly can enhance risk management and legal strategies employed by hospitals, insurers, and medical practices.
