Time: 10-11:30 a.m. CENTRAL TIME

Register for this event online:
October 2, 2008 ($295 per line)

Program Description
Getting paid quickly for outpatient services requires that your staff have a thorough understanding of the audits and reviews necessary to ensure correct coding and use of modifiers. Conducting an APC Audit will give them the global knowledge of the APC payment system that they need, along with specific information about critical compliance issues, how to develop an APC Integrity Program and issues that may be addressed in the Recovery Audit Contractor program. This audioconference begins with an overview of APCs and the encounter driven payment system, followed by key concepts and definitions. The session also includes a discussion of how the chargemaster interfaces with the coding system, how to develop policies and procedures that ensure correct coding and billing, and special areas of concern in an APC audit.

Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
  1. Discuss the main features of the APC payment system.
  2. Explain how the APC grouping logic determines payment for outpatient services.
  3. Identify the critical aspects of compliance issues surrounding APCs and related encounter-driven systems.
  4. Appraise the extreme importance of correct coding and modifier utilization.
  5. Describe how to develop an overall APC Integrity Program.
  6. Delineate specific types of audits and reviews that are necessary to assure proper payment under APCs.
