PPS Rehab

As required by the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 (BBA), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) developed a prospective payment system (PPS) for Medicare inpatient rehabilitation services and published its long-awaited final rule on August 7, 2001. The new payment system took effect January 1, 2002 and significantly changes how inpatient medical rehabilitation hospitals and units are paid under Medicare.
