Seven members of the Wisconsin Hospital Association have been awarded Magnet Recognition by the American Nurses Credentialling Center. This recognition is based on Scope and Standards of Nursing Administration published by the Center. Magnet recognition includes documentation and a site visit of the Nursing Department of a Hospital. The recognition grew out of a study of hospitals done in the 80's that investigated the factors that make a hospital an attractive work environment for nurses. Magnet hospitals identified at that time had fewer vacancies, less turn over and more involved nursing staff. Those features are also seen in today's magnet status hospitals. Preparing a magnet application is a rigorous and public process.
Only 287 institutions have achieved Magnet Status. Congratulations to the seven Wisconsin hospital systems who have Magnet Status.
The Metro Aurora Hospitals including St. Luke's Medical Center, St. Luke's South Shore, Aurora Sinai Medical Center, West Allis Memorial Hospital and Aurora Medical Center in Hartford received the recognition in January of 2001.
