Community Smiles Dental Has Life-Changing Impact on Patients
Robert, a Community Smiles Dental (CSD) patient since 2009, recently visited the Waukesha clinic for one of his final appointments. During his visit, Robert expressed his gratitude to Dr. B., one of the clinic’s dentists, for inspiring him to pursue a career as a dental hygienist. His positive experience at CSD motivated him to follow this path. CSD is known for creating a safe and supportive environment, particularly for children who may have anxiety around dental visits. Stories like Robert’s serve as a testament to the clinic’s dedication to providing affordable and quality dental care to all families.
Inspiring Students to Solve Real-World Health Problems
Each year, Froedtert in Action volunteers work to inspire nearly 200 Elmbrook and Wauwatosa high school students to pursue careers in health care through the LAUNCH program. Students partner with mentors from local businesses to develop solutions for real-world problems in immersive, career-based learning experiences. LAUNCH students conduct research, seek out best practice examples and use critical-thinking skills to propose solutions to their projects. They are challenged to tackle problems such as:
- Reducing health care disparities
- Improving health outcomes for patients with diabetes
- Removing the stigma around mental health services By providing workforce development opportunities, our health network is supporting student exposure to health care careers to advance the health care workforce pipeline.
Addressing Health Needs with the Hindu Temple of Wisconsin
Aligned with our commitment to help increase access for all and close gaps in care, Froedtert Menomonie Falls Hospital partnered with the Hindu Temple of Wisconsin to help gain a better understanding of the most pressing health needs of temple members and the activities and programs they are most interested in. We conducted a health and wellness survey and Himanshu Agrawal, MD, child and adolescent psychiatrist, presented “Embracing Your Youth’s Social Media Interests.” Himanshu shared risk factors, signs of misuse and best practices and conversation starters for social media use. Volunteers staffed information tables and answered questions from event attendees.
