Record Number of Flu Vaccines Given at Casa Guadalupe Health Fair
During the Casa Guadalupe Health Fair in October 2023, volunteers provided 60 free flu vaccines to members of the community. This record-breaking event is noteworthy because many of Casa Guadalupe’s clients face significant barriers to health care, including being underinsured, lacking transportation, experiencing language barriers and fearing traditional doctor’s office visits. By providing free flu vaccines at the fair, our health network is making preventive care more accessible for all and reducing health care disparities. More than 75 community members attended the health fair. Sixty free flu vaccines were given in less than three hours.
Lakeshore Community Health Care Welcomes All
Lacking dental care, Tammy, 52, first sought care at Lakeshore Community Health Care (LCHC) in West Bend in March 2024 after struggling to find affordable dental treatment for her tooth pain.
At her first visit, the dentist identified two problematic teeth, but she also discovered Tammy had untreated hypertension and diabetes. The two health conditions needed to be addressed before dental work for Tammy’s tooth pain could proceed. Tammy began working with a nurse practitioner at LCHC, and after two visits, her blood pressure and diabetes were under control with medication adjustments. Her dental treatment could go forward. In addition to physical health improvements, Tammy, who has a history of mental health challenges, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the LCHC team.
She appreciates the compassionate care she received, and it’s inspired her to consider pursuing a career as a medical assistant to provide others the same encouragement and care.
