Last week, the WHA Information Center transitioned Kaavio to the Power BI platform, following its original development in Tableau. As part of this transition, the WHA Information Center also released the new Border State Visits Dashboard.
This dashboard provides Wisconsin hospitals with a more complete view of their market area by including data on Wisconsin residents who receive services in participating states outside of Wisconsin. The WHA Information Center participates in a data exchange program with the Missouri Hospital Association that makes this information available.
Available to all Kaavio users, the Border State Visits Dashboard includes inpatient, emergency visit and outpatient surgery data. Users can analyze volumes and charges by payer, diagnosis and procedure categories, and patient ZIP code.
One limitation of the data exchange is that participating states do not all provide the same data elements. As a result, the availability of specific information may vary depending on the state where services were provided.
