The first intern supported through the Eric Borgerding Health Care Advocacy Scholarship has officially begun his semester-long internship with the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA), marking an important milestone for the newly established program.
Created by the WHA Foundation in honor of former WHA President & CEO Eric Borgerding’s 27 years of service to Wisconsin hospitals, the scholarship supports students pursuing careers in health policy and advocacy through a 15-week internship program at WHA.
This semester’s intern, Christopher Johns, is a Political Science honors student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison who brings experience in finance, compliance and health care law, along with a strong record of campus and community leadership.
“Chris rose to the top in a very competitive pool of applicants with strong backgrounds and interest in becoming a future leader in healthcare,” said Jon Hoelter, Vice President Federal Affairs & Advocacy. “WHA is pleased to offer this opportunity to Chris and grateful for the contributions of both individual Wisconsin health care leaders and WHA member organizations who supported the Eric Borgerding Health Care Advocacy scholarship.”
“I’m thrilled to be part of the WHA team for this internship. I really enjoyed learning about the complexities of health care policy in a previous internship and am excited to get more experience with both health care policy and advocacy over the course of my time with WHA,” said Johns.
During the internship, he will work alongside WHA’s advocacy and policy team, gaining hands-on experience in legislative engagement and health policy initiatives impacting hospitals statewide. At the conclusion of the program, he will present his work to the WHA Foundation and may receive a scholarship award funded through the endowment.
