A key driver of burden faced by health care professionals and hospitals is compliance with a growing number of regulations and requirements. Regulation is intended to ensure that patients receive safe, high-quality care. Not all the rules improve care or safety, but all of them require time and action by our hospital and health system workforce. When these requirements are viewed as unnecessary, confusing or overly burdensome, they threaten workforce well-being and unnecessarily hinder care and access. It’s both a workforce issue and a patient care issue.
