Inpatient Dialysis in Rural Health

Are you a Rural or CAH who has a need for a kidney dialysis service line in your community?
  • Every transfer is a lost opportunity. Dialysis patients don’t need to be one of them.
  • You manage primary core care every day. Dialysis doesn’t need to be an exception.
  • Dialysis is life sustaining, and now YOU have the ability to make it local/ redefine rural healthcare.
  • With incredible technology advancements, your nurses can be trained in less than 4 hours. (Yes. 4 hours)
  • Your hospital can gain higher acuity swing bed patients.

Have any misconceptions stopped you from exploring dialysis for your hospital and your community?

  1. No Nephrology-
    • Tele-Nephrology is effective!
  2. Only ICUs can support Inpatient Dialysis-
    • Contained device w/new technology makes care in a CAH/rural setting possible.
    • Device is certified for at-home use; thus, directions and training ensure safe care in a CAH and not only at an ICU level care.
  3. Only patients with ESRD need Dialysis-
    • Belief that existing panel needs to contain sufficient patients with End State Renal Disease (ESRD) to have sufficient volume.
    • Patients in need of dialysis are bypassing your hospital!
    • Patients who need inpatient dialysis have co-morbidities which require surgeries and inpatient care.

This standing room only Rural Conference breakout session is an engaging conversation with Western Wisconsin Health CEO, Eilidh Pederson and Outset Medical CMO, Dr. Michael Aragon.
