News from the CQO's Desk

Wishing You All a Happy and Safe 4th of July!

The Joint Commission Transforms Accreditation Process, Reducing Number of Requirements by Half

The Joint Commission (TJC) on June 30, launched Accreditation 360: The New Standard, a redesigned approach to hospital and health care accreditation and certification.

TJC reviewed its standards and reduced the number of requirements from 1,551 to 774. Accreditation 360 features an updated manual with clearer definitions of CMS conditions of participation and the Joint Commission’s national performance goals with an aim to reduce the regulatory burden on hospitals and healthcare systems. For details and more information you can read TJC changes and Becker's Hospital Review.

ECRI Two-Part Webinar Series Supporting the Patient Safety Structural Measure Recordings Now Available!

The 2025 Patient Safety Structural Measure (PSSM) requires system-wide and strategic planning assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement patient safety initiatives.  These webinars identified not only risk areas, but also provided gap assessments hospitals can utilize to evaluate how well they’re addressing these issues. These tools support alignment with CMS’s new PSSM and offer a strategic approach to improvement.

If you missed the live sessions or would like to revisit them, the recordings are now available. These sessions provided valuable insights, actionable strategies and practical tools to help hospitals and health care facilities create safer environments for staff and patients. We encourage all staff and leaders to watch and share these important discussions.

Watch the recordings here:

If you have not already done so, we kindly ask you to complete a brief evaluation after viewing the webinars to help us improve future sessions. Your input is valuable as we continue to shape resources and offerings that support patient safety and quality improvement across Wisconsin hospitals.

And don’t forget to Complete Your FREE Systems Safety Facility Assessment.

If your hospital has not already completed the ECRI total systems safety assessment, there is still time. By conducting these assessments, hospitals can gather the necessary information to affirmatively attest to the statements within each PSSM domain. Email Stacy Kopp with any questions.
