The Chamber of Manitowoc County’s High School Health Care Bus Tour
Holy Family Memorial leaders and team members supported the Chamber of Manitowoc County’s High School Health Care Bus Tour. Students interested in health care careers from Manitowoc Lincoln, Valders and Roncalli high schools participated in tours at the Harbor Town Campus. In its second year, the program expanded to two tour dates and averaged 60 students per day. It provided an excellent opportunity for youth to explore a variety of health care careers. Tour highlights included:
- A tour of the Wellness Center showcasing daily gym access and therapy benefits.
- A presentation on career opportunities in orthopaedics, the importance of thorough patient evaluations and a demonstration of spine, hip and knee surgical models
- A demonstration of treatment techniques used in physical and occupational therapy.
- Activities to introduce primary care career paths, including syringe practice using colored water and a ball toss game on disease transmission. This initiative supports workforce development and aligns with the health network’s commitment to increasing the awareness of health care careers.
Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital Community Grant Program
Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital is proud to announce the Community Grant Program, awarding $50,000 annually in grants to local non-profit organizations. These funds support programs and projects aimed at improving the health and well-being of residents in Manitowoc County.
The Community Grant Program supports initiatives that address social determinants of health, increase access to care and reduce health disparities. Grant recipients in the first cycle of awards expressed their gratitude:
- United Way Manitowoc County: “We are grateful for your financial support of our Ride United transportation assistance program. This funding will help us ensure that individuals in need have access to essential services.”
- Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Green Bay, Inc.: “Please know how grateful we are for your support and partnership as we continue to address the growing needs in the Manitowoc area. Your commitment to our work helps us better serve those in need.”
Community Outreach Efforts
Holy Family Memorial has committed to helping to reduce health disparities through the Catholic Health Association’s “We Are Called” pledge. In 2022, the Mission Integration Effectiveness Committee identified gaps in care in Manitowoc County. This led to the formation of the Hispanic Outreach Committee, which partnered with St. Francis of Assisi and St. Thomas the Apostle to host resource socials open to all community members.
These events, engaging 120 individuals, connected attendees with valuable resources from organizations such as Lakeshore CAP, Grow It Forward, Lakeshore Community Health Care and Catholic Charities. The latest initiative is the creation of a Hispanic Community Resources Center, spearheaded by Holy Family Memorial, St. Francis of Assisi and community partners. The group is working to establish a 501c3 and board of directors to provide long-term legal, fiscal and programmatic support. It will eventually transition ownership to the local Hispanic community.
The partnership continues to expand with weekly access to bilingual Catholic Charities staff and volunteers, providing essential resources and services.
