News from the CQO's Desk

Wisconsin hospitals are widely recognized for delivering high quality care, and that reputation is built on a shared commitment to continually improving outcomes on measures that matter most to our patients and communities. We consistently hear from senior hospital leaders that participation in credible, nationally aligned quality initiatives strengthens both performance and the ability to confidently demonstrate value, quality and stewardship to boards, payers, regulators and the public.

The CMS 13 SOW initiative is designed to support that ongoing work. It focuses on measures many organizations are already accountable for—measures that align with CMS pay for performance programs and influence public reporting and Star Ratings—while providing structured, CMS aligned support to drive improvement in patient outcomes.

We appreciate the organizations that have already committed to participating and helping advance this effort across Wisconsin. For those still considering, enrollment remains open for a limited time and participation comes at no cost while offering meaningful alignment with current and future CMS expectations.

Whether already enrolled or still exploring the opportunity, we are grateful for your leadership and continued dedication to maintaining Wisconsin’s strong legacy of high quality care.

For any questions, please reach out to Jenny Pritchett or Casey Zimpel.

Caring for Wisconsin’s Caregivers

Caring for Wisconsin’s Caregivers: Well-Being First Champion Challenge – What’s Next

Phase 1 of the Caring for Wisconsin’s Caregivers Well-Being First Champion Challenge officially kicked off in January with a virtual Credentialing Kickoff webinar, introducing organizations to the Well-Being First Champion framework and the credentialing process.

As organizations move forward, now is the time to take the next steps toward recognition.

Has your organization taken steps to review its credentialing forms and identify opportunities to align with the Well-Being First Champion standards? Support is available throughout the process.

To help teams move forward, Well-Being First Champion Challenge Office Hours are available:

  • April 9 | 3–4:00 p.m. (Drop in anytime)
  • May 12 | 4–5:00 p.m. (Drop in anytime)

During these free office hours, participants can connect directly with Dr. Stef Simmons and the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation Credentialing Team for individualized technical support and questions related to the credentialing process. Please use the Well-Being First Champion Challenge Office Hours Meeting Link to join.

Looking ahead, Phase 2 of Caring for Wisconsin’s Caregivers will launch this fall, offering additional learning and engagement opportunities. More details will be shared in the coming months. Save the date for an in-person, all-day interactive workshop scheduled for September 10, 2026, in Sun Prairie, WI.

If you’re interested in learning more, would like support with credentialing, or have questions about the Well-Being First Champion Challenge, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Nadine Allen or Jill Lindwall.
