Aspirus Divine Savior hospital in Portage has partnered with Prevention and Response Columbia County (PARCC), the local substance use prevention coalition, to purchase a new medication drop box for the Portage Police Department. The department’s previous box was no longer adequate, and the new replacement is expected to last for decades.
Medication drop boxes play an important role in community safety by giving residents a safe way to dispose of unused or expired prescriptions. This reduces the risk of misuse and keeps harmful substances out of the wastewater system.
“This project shows the power of community partnerships,” said Kari Due, Community Health Improvement Specialist with Aspirus Health. “By working together, we were able to meet a critical need in Columbia County and give residents a safe, convenient option to dispose of medications. It’s a small change with a big impact on both public safety and the environment.”
Aspirus and PARCC say this collaboration highlights how local organizations can come together to support prevention efforts and make positive, lasting changes in the community.
