Supporting Mental Health through Support Groups
In Dodge County, mental health has emerged as one of the most pressing health needs, as revealed by Marshfield Medical Center–Beaver Dam’s Community Health Needs Assessment. Among those most affected are new mothers who are often navigating the emotional highs and lows of postpartum life in isolation. Many struggle silently, held back by stigma, financial barriers, or simply not knowing where to turn.
Recognizing this critical need, the Behavioral Health and Women’s Health teams at MMC-Beaver Dam joined forces to create a lifeline for mothers in the region: the Mother to Mother Postpartum Support Group. Held at Higher Grounds Coffee Shop in Beaver Dam, this informal gathering is led by a compassionate care team including an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner (APNP) and a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), who guide conversations and offer gentle support. Open to any mothers with children from newborn to age three to come together to share stories, ask questions, or simply be heard. The group offers a blend of education, discussion, and social connection, with topics chosen by the participants themselves to ensure relevance and resonance. Whether it’s navigating sleep schedules, managing postpartum anxiety, or simply finding time for self-care, the Mother to Mother group meets moms where they are in a space where vulnerability is met with understanding, and where no one has to face the journey of motherhood alone.
