At Cumberland Healthcare, healing is more than just medical treatment, it’s about community, connection, and compassion. That’s the heart behind our Brain and Stroke Injury Support Group, a monthly gathering that’s become a lifeline for many individuals navigating the complex road of recovery after brain or stroke injuries. Every second Wednesday of the month, a group of survivors, caregivers, and healthcare professionals come together to share stories, ask questions, learn, and, most importantly, support one another. What started as a small initiative has grown into a close-knit community where hope is restored, fears are shared, and victories, big or small, are celebrated. "I attend group meetings each month for support and advice from professionals and attendees. I learn from you all since each of us has a different and unique story” says one participant.
Facilitated by knowledgeable and compassionate healthcare professionals from Cumberland Healthcare’s rehabilitation team, the group focuses on four key pillars:
- Peer Support: Members connect and interact with others who have walked a similar path, offering understanding that only lived experience can provide.
- Education: Sessions include learning from healthcare professionals equipping participants with tools for better recovery and wellness.
- Empowerment: Through shared strategies and encouragement, members gain confidence to face daily challenges and advocate for their own health.
- Community: More than just a meeting, the group is a place to build lasting friendships and find joy in the journey together.
For many, the support group becomes a crucial part of their healing, a space to laugh, cry, learn, and grow. It’s a reminder that recovery doesn’t happen in isolation, and that even in the toughest moments, there’s strength in connection.
At Cumberland Healthcare, we believe that community is medicine, and our Brain and Stroke Injury Support Group is a testament to the power of human connection in the journey toward recovery. Whether you’re a survivor, a caregiver, or someone seeking to learn more. Together, we are stronger.
