Why Routine Preventive Care Matters After 65: Bridging Gaps in Senior Health
As individuals age, their healthcare needs evolve including the importance of routine preventive care. Recognizing this, Marshfield Medical Center-Eau Claire hosted an educational session titled “Why Routine Preventive Care Matters After 65,” specifically designed for the Medicare population. The session aimed to raise awareness about the critical role of preventive screenings and services covered under Medicare, such as cancer screenings, cardiovascular assessments, and vaccinations. This session wasn’t just about promoting check-ups but rather its aim was to address health disparities that disproportionately affect older adults, especially those in rural or underserved communities. Many seniors face barriers to care, including limited transportation, financial constraints, lack of awareness about covered services, and technology barriers that make navigating the healthcare system challenging. This session tackled those issues head-on. By providing clear, accessible information, the event empowered attendees to take charge of their health. It also highlighted the importance of early detection and routine monitoring in preventing chronic conditions that can significantly impact quality of life.
MMC-Eau Claire facilitated the session with a focus on accessibility, ensuring that materials were easy to understand, and participants were encouraged to ask questions, share concerns, and connect with local resources that could support their ongoing care. Ultimately, the session served as more than just an educational opportunity, it was rooted in community connection as well.
