Registered Nurse - Float

The Float Registered Nurse is versatile and competent to staff on multiple units. The Float Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing the needs of each patient in the unit assigned, planning the nursing care needed to meet these needs and providing that care. This position is often assigned to accompany inter-facility patient transfers. This RN will “float” to the unit with the greatest need as determined by the House Supervisor, Department Directors or Vice President for Nursing. Competency is required for Medical/Surgical, ICU, Emergency Department, and PACU patient care. The Float RN is also trained to be a second RN at an uncomplicated birth (labor management not required), with more in-depth training in Postpartum and Newborn nursing care. Additional training for Float Registered Nurses hired into the evening/night position will include basic early labor along with limited Birth Center outpatient assessment skills, as will be determined by the Birth Center Director and the VP of Nursing. All staff who work on the acute care nursing units are hired with the expectation that they will work every other weekend (8-hour shifts) or every third weekend (12-hour shifts). This weekend schedule may change at times due to weekend staffing programs but will revert back to this commitment as needed. All nursing staff on these units are hired with an expectation to fulfill holiday staffing requirements as designated by their home departments. Must be graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Clinic Triage Registered Nurse

Under general supervision of the Clinic Management Team and the Clinic Physicians the Triage Nurse performs care coordination and professional nursing functions to assess the severity of the patient’s health concerns using protocols in a manner that provides patient dispositions to emergency care, clinic provider appointments, specialty care and triage nurse clinic services within the scope of the licensed practice. The Triage nurse will support providers in triaging walk-in patients as well. Candidates should have a strong community and public health orientation. The Triage Nurse will be part of a care coordination team supporting general care processes alongside other clinic personnel and providers. Manages nurse-directed patient telephone calls and from walk-in patients requesting health care services. Evaluates and assesses patient’s health care needs based on patient’s signs and symptoms utilizing established triage protocols and guidelines. Coordinate and schedule high priority same-day and walk-in appointments on the provider’s schedules. Utilize standing orders, triage protocols and algorithms appropriately. Monitor patient flow in the clinic; ensure that patients receive all recommended services in a timely manner. As needed, perform other nursing functions as assigned. Assist providers with special procedures as needed. Manage prescription refills per protocol. Provide patient education: e.g. chronic disease, preventive and family. Will train new staff to this role and the duties and responsibilities of the position. Participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned. Assures that pertinent medical information is forwarded to proper departments as needed for continuity of patient care. Documents in electronic health record (EHR), triage assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation, follow-up. Will participate in organizational and departmental CQI activities. Candidates must have a current WI unrestricted RN license and have a current CPR certification. Prior clinic-related triage experience of at least 1 year would be preferred. Prior experience working in a medical clinic is highly preferred. Candidates must have knowledge of disease processes, normal growth and development of all age groups. Must possess community health knowledge and theory. Must operate with cultural sensitivity with respect to working with persons and groups of diverse racial, ethnic, economic and social backgrounds. The RN House Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating patient care duties of professional and non-professional nursing staff on all units during the assigned shift (i.e., evenings, nights, and holidays). The House Supervisor serves as a house-wide resource for other staff during the shift to resolve problems and address critical issues. Position Requirements: Required: Associate’s Degree in Nursing. Graduate of an accredited school of Registered Nursing. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Currently licensed by the Board of Licensing and Regulation in the State of Wisconsin as a Registered Nurse in good standing Required Certification: Current BLS certification at hire, ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale certification within 90 days of hire, PALS certification within 6 months, FEMA HICS 100, 200 and 700.
